Day 9 - May 31, 2014

Today we went to Maastricht and went into a church that was renovated into a modern bookstore and coffee shop. My kind of thing!  


We also said goodbye or tot ziens to our dear Langeveld family. What fun we had!


Next stop Amsterdam and the Waldorf Astoria on the Herengracht. The hotel was once where the Dutch aristocracy lived, now a beautiful spot on the canals, the Golden Bend, Gouden Bocht.




We met friends Bart and Ronald for dinner and drinks out near the Rembrandtplatz.

Day 8- May 30, 2014

Day 2 in Limburg found us exploring the countryside, a visit to an Abbey in Belgium and an evening in Aachen, Germany. We were in an area close to all three countries.







We went into the main cathedral built in 805 AD by Charlemagne also known as Karl and Charles the Great.

Day 7 - May 29, 2014

Today, we left for a 3 hour drive to the south of Holland in the province of Limburg.


And stayed at the beautiful Hotel Ons  Krijtland.


We stayed with the Langeveld family to celebrate Kees and Karin's 28th wedding anniversary!

Day 6 - May 28, 2014




Rotterdam is a port city. Today, Marcel joined us for a bike ride around Rotterdam.

We went under the Maas river.

And explored the working port, one of the largest in the world.

Ships and containers everywhere.

We ended up at the old docks of Rotterdam, Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij, now a college, for a coffee!

And then to the Holland America line.

Train back to Noordwijk through Delft to Breakers on the Beach.

Day 5 - May 27, 2014



We are loving our hotel! Coffee first at Hopper and then off to the Kinderdijk.


A famous area of Holland with its nineteen 18th century windmills, a UNESCO world heritage site.




We also ended up at the Museumpark.


And visited the Boijmans Museum. 


More windmills!


More exploring through the city and then out for a super fish dinner at ZeeZout!

Day 4- May 26, 2014

Today, we made a pit stop in Alkmaar, the cheese capital of Holland, before heading by train through Haarlem, Leiden and Den Haag to the port city of Rotterdam.




Rotterdam is a very modern city!! 

After checking into the Mainport hotel on the water, we explored a bit before heading out to 1nul8, a wine bar and then out for pizza and ice cream!

Day 3 - May 25, 2014


After a visit with Daan and Charissa, we headed out on our bike trip!



Today, we rode 60KM to Heiloo in North Holland.

Lots of bike riding in the dunes!



We arrive in Heiloo where we are staying with Appie in his castle in the park, Huis Neijenburg. 




And had a yummy dinner at Silhouet and La Locanda.
